Mike Thompson grew up in Independence, Kansas, and graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1972.
Thompson started his business career with the Armstrong Cork Company. In 1973, he joined Merrill Lynch as an account executive and held a variety of management positions culminating in being appointed regional managing director of the Texas Mid-South region. Thompson led the region to the top of the firm before leaving in 2007 and founding a consulting practice.
In June 2009, he re-entered the industry as the managing director of the Heartland region for the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS). After a successful career with UBS, Thompson resumed his consulting practice in June 2014, serving clients across the financial services industry. Thompson became the first vice president and branch manager of Wells Fargo Advisors’ Mission Woods, Kansas, branch in 2015.
Throughout his 45-year career, Thompson has been active in the industry and community. Today is an emeritus member of the the Board of Advisors for the KU School of Business. In 2017, he was presented with the KU School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award.
