O. Maurice Joy is a distinguished professor emeritus of finance at the University of Kansas School of Business. Joy received a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1961. From 1961 through 1963, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and later received a master’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Joy earned a doctorate in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969.

He began teaching at KU in 1969 as an assistant professor. In 1981, Joy was named as the Joyce C. Hall Distinguished Professor. He won the Henry Bubb Teaching Award in 1992.
