Amelia Knopp

Amelia Knopp defines success through purpose, resilience, and community. A lifelong Jayhawk from Manhattan, Kansas, Knopp grew up immersed in KU traditions, making the University of Kansas a natural and meaningful choice for her college journey.

She chose the KU School of Business for its versatility and opportunity, pursuing a major in accounting. Encouraged by supportive faculty and a strong academic community, Knopp found an environment that nurtures her growth professionally, personally, and academically. She later added a second major in sociology, drawn to its emphasis on writing, policy, and understanding the social forces that shape business decisions.

Knopp is deeply engaged on campus as a member of the University Honors Program and a participant in Common Cause, a yearlong initiative focused on urgent societal issues. These experiences inspired her to apply for and earn a place in the competitive University Scholars Program, which provides scholarship support and faculty mentorship while emphasizing interdisciplinary learning and collaboration.

Her academic journey has been shaped by mentorship from faculty leaders such as University Distinguished Professor Sarah Deer, whose guidance reinforced Knopp’s commitment to thoughtful, impact-driven work. Knopp’s achievements were further recognized when she was named one of four KU nominees in spring 2026 for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, reflecting her leadership, academic excellence, and dedication to public service.

Knopp’s resilience is rooted in personal experience. Diagnosed with leukemia during high school, she completed chemotherapy during her freshman year at KU and underwent multiple joint replacements. These challenges reshaped her perspective and fueled her commitment to service, particularly through KU blood drives, where she now serves as community outreach coordinator and supports donors throughout the process.

As she explores future paths including law school or a master’s degree in accounting at KU, Knopp approaches every opportunity with gratitude and optimism. A cancer survivor and dedicated student leader, she is motivated to make the most of her education and to carry forward the compassion, purpose, and positivity that define her KU experience.
