Sean Anderson never expected to find his ideal college experience in Kansas, but a visit to the University of Kansas quickly changed his perspective. A senior from Manhattan, Kansas, Anderson discovered a campus community where he could thrive academically, creatively, and as a leader.
At KU, Anderson has built a rigorous and well-rounded academic path, double-majoring in accounting and finance while also minoring in human resources and entrepreneurship. His interest in business took shape late in high school after a dual-enrollment accounting course revealed how naturally the concepts clicked, setting him on a course toward a future in finance and accounting.
Determined to make the most of his KU experience, Anderson immersed himself in campus life. He became involved in The Catalyst entrepreneurship program and served as a teaching assistant for ACCT 200 Financial Accounting, gaining leadership experience and a behind-the-scenes perspective on the School of Business. He credits supportive faculty and strong advising with helping him balance demanding coursework and extracurricular commitments.
One of Anderson’s most defining experiences has been his involvement in the KU Marching Jayhawks. What began as a way to meet people during his first year evolved into a central part of his KU journey. In the 2024–25 academic year, he earned the role of drum major, leading the band through on-field performances and helping sustain a sense of unity during a season played across multiple venues while David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium was under renovation.
Through leadership, academics, and hands-on professional preparation, including a finance internship with H&R Block, Anderson feels well equipped for life after graduation. With a year remaining at KU, he values the strong sense of community he has found in Lawrence and looks forward to carrying the Jayhawk spirit, collaboration, and confidence he gained at KU into his professional career.
