Jerry Jennett is the chairman and CEO of Georgia Gulf Sulfur Corp., based in Valdosta, Georgia.
In 1982, he was a partner in a group of Griffin Corp. employees who purchased Georgia Gulf Sulfur. The company has since expanded and today processes and distributes sulfur products primarily to markets throughout North America, the Caribbean, South America and the Pacific Rim. Jennett helped lead the outright buyout of five sulfur grind plants in North America and is also responsible for the creation of two related sulfur operations: Bainbridge Chemical Corp. and Galaxy Sulfur. In addition to his success in the sulfur industry, he operates an 880-acre farm in northwest Iowa.
He has been a member of the Valdosta-Lowndes Industrial Development Authority for more than 10 years and has been instrumental in recruiting many new businesses to south Georgia, as well as seeking ways to expand existing businesses in the region.
Jennett and his wife, Kay, endowed the Jennett Finance Scholars Program at the KU School of Business. The program provides finance majors at KU with a scholarship as well as unique learning and networking opportunities. The Jennetts previously made a gift to KU Endowment to establish a scholarship in the School of Business for undergraduates who work for or hold internships with KU Athletics.
Jennett earned a bachelor’s degree in business from KU in 1963.
