David Dillon is the former chairman and CEO of the Kroger Co.
Dillon served in a variety of leadership roles after joining the Dillon Companies in 1976 with its King Soopers division in Denver. During his career, he served in various positions with Fry’s Food Stores in Phoenix (a division of Dillon Companies) and with the Dillon Companies prior to being named president of Dillon Companies in 1986. He was appointed executive vice president of Kroger in 1990 and was elected president and chief operating officer of the company in 1995. Dillon was named CEO of Kroger in 2003.
He is chair of the Board of Trustees for KU Endowment and has served on the School of Business Board of Advisors and as chairman of the board of trustees for Leadership Kansas. In 1999, he was honored as a Distinguished Alumni by the School of Business, and in 2004, he received the Fred Ellsworth Medallion for his outstanding business success and contributions toward the progress of KU, the School of Business and the community.
Dillon holds a Bachelor of Science from the KU School of Business and a Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University.
