The late John C. “Jack” Dicus worked at Capitol Federal Savings for much of his career, beginning full time in 1959. He was president of the organization from 1969 to 1988 and served as chairman, president and CEO from 1989 to 1996. In 2009, Dicus was honored for 50 years of service to Capitol Federal Savings and retired as chairman of the board, continuing as chairman emeritus. In October 2012, the Capitol Federal Foundation pledged a $20 million lead gift for the construction of Capitol Federal Hall.
Dicus was presented with the KU Alumni Association’s Fred Ellsworth Medallion in 1990 and honored with the KU School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award in 1998. Thanks to a gift from the Capitol Federal Foundation in early 2019, the business school’s honors program is now named the Jack Dicus Business Honors Program.
He graduated from KU with a Bachelor of Science in business in 1955, but his family’s ties to KU go back even further. His father, Henry Bubb, a 1928 KU graduate, received the Ellsworth Medallion in 1977. His son, John B. Dicus, earned his bachelor’s degree in business in 1983 and MBA in 1985 from KU and also was recognized with the KU School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014 and the Fred Ellsworth Medallion in 2017. Other KU alumni in the Dicus family include the late Betty Bubb Dicus, Debra Dicus Kennedy, and Brenda Roskens Dicus.
