Larry Sherr

The late Larry Sherr was a professor emeritus of the KU School of Business.

Sherr joined the business school’s faculty in 1965. He was an active participant in numerous school and universitywide service activities, including serving as the school’s director of instruction for eight years and as chair of the university’s Long-Range Planning Committee.

Sherr’s outstanding teaching ability was recognized not only by the School of Business but also by the university. Larry received his first outstanding teaching award in 1968 and received 15 more citations, including the Henry A. Bubb Award for Outstanding Classroom Teaching (five times), the Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Educator Award (three times) and the Undergraduate Business Council/Senior Class Outstanding Educator Award (three times). In 1986, he was awarded the Chancellors Club Teaching Professorship, a distinction he retained for the rest of his career with the university. He retired in 1998.

Sherr will be remembered for sharing his expertise when asked and providing input and ideas to encourage better teaching skills, especially to new faculty members. In recognition of his contributions throughout the years, Sherr was granted emeritus status at the university. In spring 2015, it was announced at the school’s combined board meeting that former students and teaching assistants raised funds to support a classroom in Capitol Federal Hall in Sherr’s honor.
